SUMMARY:6GIC-CLICK Featuring Non-Terrestrial Networks - Towards 6G
DESCRIPTION:This exciting event will bring together experts and enthusiasts from the field of Non-Terrestrial Networks\, to discuss the latest advancements and innovations. \n\n\n\nThe demand for mobility\, ubiquitous coverage and resilience has driven communications in 5G and 6G to include NTN. The latter includes multi orbit satellites\, High Altitude Platforms (HAPs) and Aerial devices in the lower troposphere. In 5G and 5G advanced we are already seeing integrated service delivery via cellular and satellite direct to commercial mobile phones heralding a convergence of these sectors. This is being enabled by new 3GPP NTN 5G standards helping to create the new ecosystem. The 5G advanced era will herald large constellations of LEO satellites with on board processing including network functions previously only terrestrial located but now offering direct phone to phone connections without the need for terrestrial infrastructure. As we now move into the period of defining a completely new and unified 6G system\, NTN will play a key role in proving coverage and resilience via an interconnected 3D space network converged with terrestrial networks.

SUMMARY:one6G - Open Lecture 8 – Cell-free massive MIMO
DESCRIPTION:Following the success of the previous lectures\, the Association is happy to confirm that Open Lecture 8 will take place on June 20\, 2024\, at 14h00 CEST\, covering the subject of cell-free massive MIMO. \nCurrent wireless standards are evolving toward large-scale massive MIMO deployments. Cell-free massive MIMO (CF-MIMO\, also known as distributed MIMO) is a promising new architecture for future radio access. By moving away from the classical cellular design\, it avoids the problems of cell-edge interference and frequent handovers. This is especially important when transmission-reception points (TRP) and user equipments (UE) are densely distributed. A key feature differentiating cell-free MIMO from previous distributed MIMO architectures is the concept of user-centricity\, which means that each UE can be flexibly connected to individually formed clusters of TRPs. \nThe one6G Open Lecture 8 will feature three top-class speakers who will present and discuss important results\, new possibilities\, and open questions regarding the standardization and commercialization of this new technology. \nLearn more about the event here
