6G-NTN Project Coordinator Alessandro Vanelli-Coralli at the 6GIC-CLICK Featuring Non-Terrestrial Networks – Towards 6G

On 2 October 2024, the 6G-NTN Project Coordinator participated in the 6GIC-CLICK workshop, hosted at the Institute for Communication Systems (ICS) at the University of Surrey, Guildford, UK. The event brought together leading experts and enthusiasts in the field of Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) to explore the latest advancements and innovations shaping the future of telecommunications.

6G-NTN Project Coordinator Alessandro Vanelli-Coralli delivered an insightful keynote titled “Exploring the Future: Challenges and Innovations in 6G Non-Terrestrial Network Air Interface Design.” His insights underscored the vital role that NTNs will play in shaping the future of communication systems as we advance toward 6G.

The workshop addressed various key challenges in NTN research, such as:

  • Developing open networking architectures to support NTN mobility.
  • Creating unified air interfaces that meet both terrestrial and NTN requirements.
  • Leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to manage complexity and interference.
  • Integrating sensing capabilities with communication technologies.
  • Enhancing timing and positioning services through integrated communications.

The sixth edition of the 6GIC-CLICK workshop featured other esteemed keynote speakers, including Professor Petar Popovski from the University of Aalborg, Dr. Thomas Heyn from Fraunhofer IIS, Professor Yuanjie Li from Tsinghua University, and Dr. Stefan Draskoci from Aalyria. Together, they explored various facets of NTN technology, enriching the dialogue on the evolution of communication networks.

The workshop served as a crucial platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange among experts, setting the stage for future innovations in the 6G landscape.
