The 6G-NTN project participated in the 12th Advanced Satellite Multimedia Systems Conference (ASMS) and the 18th Signal Processing for Space Communications Workshop (SPSC) held on 26-28 February 2025, in Sitges, near Barcelona, Spain. This premier event, jointly organised by 6G-NTN project partners DLR Institute for Communications and Navigation and the Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), with the scientific support of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the 6G-NTN Coordinator, University of Bologna, focused on the integration of Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) into future 6G systems.
The opening ceremony featured warm welcome remarks from Sandro Scalise (DLR), Ana Perez Neira (CTTC) and Alberto Ginesi (ESA) followed by a brief talk on how the 3D multilayered architecture was first presented at this very conference in 2008 delivered by 6G-NTN Project Coordinator Alessandro Vanelli-Coralli from University of Bologna.
After the opening ceremony, Nicolas Chuberre, 6G-NTN Technical Manager and Solution Line Manager at Thales Alenia Space, delivered an insightful keynote titled “NTN from 5G to 6G: Standardization and Sustainability Aspects.” His talk delved into the evolution of Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN), emphasising the key roles of standardisation and sustainability in the transition from 5G to 6G.
On 28 February, 6G-NTN project coordinator Alessandro Vanelli-Coralli from University of Bologna, presented in a session chaired by Bernard Barani, 6G-IA. His presentation, “Overview of Ongoing NTN-Related EC/SNS Projects”, highlighted collaborative efforts and advancements in the field of EC/SNS Project related to NTN.
The event also saw active participation from other 6G-NTN project partners, including German Aerospace Center (DLR), Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), and SES Satellites. Additionally, 6G-NTN shared a booth with the SNS JU project 5G-STARDUST, displaying project material, fostering engagement with attendees, and facilitating discussions on developments in satellite communications.
The ASMS/SPSC 2025 conference is a pivotal platform for the satellite communications community, offering keynotes, tutorials, and special sessions that address advanced research topics and provide networking opportunities for professionals from academia and industry. For more information about the event, visit the dedicated page: https://www.asmsconference.org/
