6G-NTN at the 5th NTN Workshop in Berlin

On 6 November 2025, 6G-NTN was in Berlin for the 5th NTN Workshop: Towards a Unified TN-NTN System, the well-established ecosystem event co-organised by Fraunhofer FOKUS – hosted at their premises – in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) and Eurescom.

We were proud to see our project partner Alessandro Guidotti from the University of Bologna take the stage with his talk “Challenges and Innovations for Future 6G NTN.” His presentation shed light on the pivotal role of Non-Terrestrial Networks in shaping the next generation of global 6G infrastructures and highlighted how seamless integration of terrestrial and non-terrestrial domains will underpin future connectivity.

This year’s workshop brought together mobile and satellite network operators, integrators, technology providers, and academia—including fellow SNS JU projects 5G-STARDUST and ETHER—for a rich exchange on the evolution of the NTN domain. Building on progress toward interoperability and now aiming for full unification of terrestrial and satellite communication ecosystems, the event marked a decisive moment: with 3GPP 6G standardization now underway, non-terrestrial communication is fully embedded in the process from day one.

The program combined key presentations, expert panels, and live demonstrations, showcasing the importance of new laboratory infrastructures, space assets, and cost-effective testbeds as foundational tools for experimentation and validation. As an industry forum, the workshop continues to foster unification across terrestrial and non-terrestrial sectors, helping accelerate cross-industry convergence in the emerging 6G and O-RAN landscape.

A warm thank-you to the organizers — Maria Guta (ESA), Adam Kapovits (Eurescom), and Marius Corici (Fraunhofer FOKUS) — for creating yet another impactful platform for collaboration.
